Sustainable Agriculture

Findus is a major European producer of frozen vegetables and we have our own environmentally-friendly growing method – a unique method of sustainable vegetable production called LISA “Low Input Sustainable Agriculture.”

Developed over the past 20 years, LISA has been shown to result in a much lower impact on climate and environment - with healthier soils, sustainable agriculture and the production of great-tasting, fresh vegetables. The model takes account of the biological whole, looks at the entire production chain and is updated continuously as research delivers new technology.

We work closely with approximately 500 contract farmers during the whole growing cycle to guarantee the highest possible quality. We examine soils for the incidence of soil-borne diseases prior to seeding and we closely follow the development of pests during the season. We recommend insecticides and herbicides be used in low doses only as required to keep pests under reasonable control. When chemical intervention is necessary, our objective is always to fall below the EU´s residue limit for baby food, which is <10 ppb (parts per billion)

At present all our peas and around half our vegetables overall come the LISA system through our own contractors. Where we purchase outside this system, we require GLOBALGAP or a similar certification system to ensure cultivation conditions have been used that promote product safety and quality with minimal impact on the environment.
